“80’s NIGHT at the SPEEDWAY”

SATURDAY APRIL 7  Presented by Sunrise Ford

Irwindale, Calif. - - After a great start on March 24, the 2018 the Whelen All-American NASCAR season will be on a roll again this Saturday night, April 7.   The exciting evening will feature a full card of on-track action and the added fun of an “80’s Night” including an ‘80’s rock band, Sunglasses at Night, and a fan dress-up contest for the best ‘80’s costume(headbands, acid-washed jeans, and Reebok Pumps expected). The winner of our costume contest will take home TWO 2018 Season Passes (a $200 value) PLUS we’re giving away a 2018 poster to the first 500 fans through the gate!

There’s only been two LKQ Pick Your Part Late Model races run so far (and there’ll be two more points-paying races on Saturday) but the season is showing some new names and a tie in the points for first place in the track’s top class.  All of which indicates that the races are well and truly on.

#25 Lawless Alan from Sherman Oaks and #7 Ryan Schartau from Chino share the top spot on the list both showing 94 points (a win is worth 50 points with second place getting 48, third place 46 and so on).  Alan got his with a win and a fourth place (50 + 44) and Schartau scored two second place finishes for his 94.  Tustin’s #26 Alec Martinez is listed in third place with a strong 86 points, with #51 Blaine Perkins, from Bakersfield and #77 Nick Joanides from Woodland Hills rounding out the top five with 84 and 82 points respectively.  It is early in the 18-race championship, but this is NASCAR Home Track racing and every point counts, ask any one of the above.

In the Irwindale Race Trucks #6 Ryan Partridge (Rancho Cucamonga) went to victory lane in the first IRT race and is your points leader with 50 in the bank.  #9 Conner Cantrell (who commutes from Pacifica to race at Irwindale) is second, with #78 Lucas McNeil (Saugus), #4 Dennis Arena (the 2017 IRT Champion from nearby Duarte), and #3 L.J. Billings from Glendora in fifth place going into the April 7 race.

After one race #33 Darren Amidon from Lakeside has the top spot in the INEX Legend Cars with #29 Chad Schug (Huntington Beach), #79 Austin Farr (Lomita), #7 Ryan Schartau, and  #09 Ricky Leigh (Wildomar) all in line only two points apart in the spec series where every race car is technically identical and from where some very prominent drivers have sprung.  Both Busch brothers drove in Legend Car races right here here at Irwindale in the early years of the facility and star drivers like Joey Logano, Darrell Wallace Jr., and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. all drove Legends on their way to the big show.

Enduro Racing started off as a cheap, fun way to put your foot down on the throttle at Irwindale.  Take an 8 year old front wheel drive compact car, bust out the windows, gut the interior, weld in a “spreader bar” (3-inch diameter heavy wall steel tubing) wall-to-wall behind the seat, air up the tires and you’ve got yourself and Enduro Car.  Strange paint jobs and decorative lighting motifs are optional.

The winding course for the Enduros is loosely-described as a “Roval” which means that it uses part of the oval track but that it veers this way and that through the infield (like a road course) thus the name.  With one race in the books, the fun on the run division has #19 Rodney Argo in the number one slot, the well-known sprint car driver has #177 Michael Hudson and #17 Daniel Hudson 2 and 4 points behind, with #71 Bory Molina and #81 Eddie Howell making the top five.

… As usual there’s a party right on the racetrack when every driver  parks their racecar right on the front straight and the track’s signature On-Track Autograph (and selfies) Session begins at 5:45PM.  It’s a part of the show that parents with young children really shouldn’t miss, autographs, candy, and maybe a chance to sit in the seat of a real race car right on the track.  Get there early and sign up to play one of our new On-Track Promotion games and win prizes from our valued partners such as Scosche, LA Racing Experience, Miller Coors, Pepsi, 805 Beer and  Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse.

Gates open at 4PM for fans to take in qualifying if they’d like and the first race flags off at 7PM.  Pre purchase tickets and save $5 per adult ticket by using the coupon code: NASCAR18 (offer expires midnight Friday, April 6). For more information visit!
