TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale features Labor Unions Appreciation Night and Family Night this Saturday (August 30) with a full slate of NASCAR Whelen short track racing activities scheduled including a Train race.
Any individual who is a member of a labor union will be admitted for free with proper identification or special promotion code and adult members of their families attending the event will be admitted for half price. All youngsters 15 years of age and under attending the event will also be admitted for free.
The racing schedule also includes the
Auto Club Late Model twin races,
Vista Paint Super Stocks and
Pure Stocks oval and figure 8 races.
Entering Saturday night’s Auto Club Late Model action, Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills sits on top of the
division standings with 554 points but a slim two point margin separates he and second place Tim Huddleston of Agoura Hills while Andrew Myers of Huntington Beach is four points off of the pace. Joanides is also attempting to win the ACDelco Super Late Model division title but his attention and effort will be to hold back the hard-charging Huddleston in the twin races. Both Joanides and Huddleston have strung together an impressive record of finishes in their last eight races including three wins and three runner-up finishes.
Division points leader Bryan Harrell of Riverside enters Saturday night’s Vista Paint Super Stock race with 434 points including a 28 point lead over second place Rich DeLong III of Santa Clarita. Harrell has won six of the nine races this year including second place finishes in two other contests.
The Pure Stock division drivers will have the opportunity to showcase their diverse driving skills on Saturday night by competing in a twin bill of races on the third-mile oval and figure 8 course. Only 16 points separate the top four drivers in the
division standings. Chad Kelly of Calabasas is in first place with 414 points with Tommy Agosta of Chino eight points back (406 points). Mike Colato Jr. of Chatsworth is in third place with 404 points while Ron Davis of Norwalk is in fourth place with 398 points.
The
Drivetech Racing Series, a racing program featuring equally prepared Late Model cars will make the first of two appearances at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. The second round will take place on October 4.
The evening’s schedule will conclude with a train race in which teams of three cars connected together will compete on the Speedway’s figure 8 course. The front car includes the driver responsible for steering and controlling the throttle, the middle car is unoccupied while the driver in the rear car controls the brakes.
Spectator gates open and qualifying begins at 4 p.m. The King Taco autograph session with drivers, teams and race cars on the race track will begin at 5:45 p.m. Racing begins at 7 p.m.

Drag Strip will host Test and Tune this Thursday night. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing from 5-10 p.m. It costs $20.00 to compete and $10.00 for adult spectators to watch the action. Kids 5 and under get in free.
