High Speeds, High Car Count, As Spears Tour and Modifieds Take over Irwindale

(Tuesday, July 16, 2019) Irwindale, CA– The Spears Southwest Tour Series, Spears Manufacturing Modified Series presented by Lucas Oil and Southwest Tour Trucks, will headline an exciting night of racing at Irwindale Speedway this Saturday, July 20th.

“Try Not to Suck” Race Night presented by Chicago Cub’s Manager Joe Maddon’s Respect 90 Foundation, will kick off with the Spears Mfg. Modifieids. Five races into the 2019 season, Dylan Cappello heads to Irwindale holding a 4-point lead over local Late Model veteran, Ryan Schartau. The race features twin 40 lap features, where the final finishing order will be determined by best average finish between each 40-lap segment. The pressure for a driver will be intensified, as a mistake in the first segment could go on to haunt a driver in the second segment.

In the Southwest Tour Trucks, a pair of local Whittier drivers, currently sit atop the standings, with Ronnie Davis narrowly ahead of Mel Kelperis by 5 points. The division, which traces its roots to Irwindale Speedway’s former “West Coast Pro Truck” division, has enjoyed a resurgence under the guidance of former Irwindale Track Champion Jeff Williams. Irwindale Speedway serves as a homecoming for a number of the drivers, so a win on Saturday would be a special one.

Finally, The Spears Southwest Tour Series will hit the progressive banks of Irwindale for the “RJ Allen, Inc. 100 presented by Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse”. Over 30 cars are expected, as a “who’s who” of west coast drivers look to take home the $5,000 prize. Irwindale veterans such as Trevor Huddleston, Toni McCray, Linny White and Andy Allen will look for home field advantage against an All-Star lineup featuring Xfinity/Gander Outdoor Truck Series driver Dylan Lupton and 4-time Spears Southwest Tour Champion Derek Thorn.

Joe Maddon’s “Try Not to Suck” Race Night will also feature silent auctions with proceeds benefiting the Kenley Jansen Foundation for families with seriously ill and chronically ill children.  Speedway gates will open to the public at 4:00pm with Green Flag at 7:00 pm. Tickets are currently on sale at www.irwindalespeedway.com
